YA Fic: Practice Makes Perfect
Rated G
Characters: Billy/Teddy
Notes: Another little ficlet set before Issue 1

Teddy broke Billy’s arm on the third day of training.

“Ow,” said Billy as he pulled himself into a sitting position.

Teddy ran towards Billy, taking one knee next to him. “Oh my god, Billy, I am so sorry, are you ok?”

“I think I broke my arm.”

“Damn it, here, I’ve got you. I’m taking you to the hospital.” Teddy easily scooped Billy into his arms.

“You’re going to take me looking like that?” asked Billy as Teddy started running towards the nearest major street.

“Do you have a problem with what I’m wearing?” he replied incredulously.

“No, but I do have a problem with what color you are,” pointed out Billy as he cradled his arm.

“Oh. Right.” Teddy shifted back to his normal form just as they reached the street. Hailing a cab, he gingerly put Billy down. “The nearest hospital, please.”

The cab driver looked into the rearview mirror. “You boys coming from some sort of costume party?”

Billy groaned, clenching his teeth as he muttered, “Iwillnotpassout, Iwillnotpassout.”

Teddy made soothing noises low in his throat as he removed Billy’s winged headdress, running a hand through the boy’s dark, damp hair. “Uhhh, sure, yes sir, let’s go with that,” he tossed over his shoulder in reply to the driver.

Teddy unclasped Billy’s cloak, and gently tugged it out from underneath him. He smiled worriedly and joked, “Never thought this is why I’d be taking your clothes off for the first time.”

Billy’s chuckle was strained. “It’s a whole night of unexpected surprises. I don’t think most superheroes rush to the hospital in a cab after a botched training session.”

Teddy grinned, gently tugging Billy closer to him, rubbing soothing circles on the other boy’s back with one hand. “Guess we should have discussed the landing a little more before we tried the fastball special, yeah?”

Billy grimaced. “Wolverine makes it look so goddamn easy. At least Iron Lad and Patriot were late enough to miss that disaster.”

Teddy chuckled, pressing his lips to Billy’s temple lightly. “Thank God for small favors.”

Billy and Teddy try something different.
